OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) technology is non-invasive, quick, and provides highly detailed information about the internal structures of the eye, making it an invaluable tool for optometrists and ophthalmologists. The information obtained from an OCT scan helps in early detection, accurate diagnosis, and the monitoring of various eye conditions, contributing to better management and care for our patients.

An OCT scanner emits light waves into the eye and reflect off the different layers of the eye’s tissues. The scanner then measures the reflected light, capturing the variations in intensity and the time it takes for the light to return. This data is processed to generate detailed cross-sectional images.

The scanner captures high-resolution images of the various layers of the eye, including the cornea, retina, optic nerve, and macula.

It provides precise details about the thickness, structure, and health of these layers.

Scans can detect and monitoring of various eye conditions, such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, retinal detachments, and macular oedema. It allows eye care professionals to visualise and analyse changes within the eye’s layers, assisting in the early detection and management of eye diseases.
